Information for Visitors to FTPI

Welcome to FTPI! We are glad to have you participating in our visitor program. General information, office procedures, and most commonly asked questions are addressed below. Please feel free to ask our staff any other questions you may have about FTPI or the Twin Cities area during your stay. We hope you have a productive and enjoyable visit here.

Arriving in Minneapolis
The University of Minnesota is served by the Minneapolis/St. Paul International airport (MSP). There is both shuttle and taxi service from the airport to hotels on campus. Campus is generally about 20-25 minutes from the airport by taxi.  To catch a taxi or shuttle at the airport, after claiming your luggage, follow signs to the Ground Transportation Center one level below baggage claim.  The cost of a taxi is usually around $45.00 and the shuttle is about half of that. Additionally there is Light Rail Service from the airport to downtown Minneapolis. Light Rail is a less expensive alternative to both taxi and shuttle service.

Lodging
Short-term visitors are generally housed at either the Days Hotel or The Commons Hotel, both a short walk from FTPI. Long-term visitors are placed in better-equipped accommodations. Detailed information will be sent to you by our staff upon confirmation of your visit.

Maps and Information
Information regarding the location of Tate Lab of Physics and the University of Minnesota are available HERE. Campus has been under construction recently so please click the link to view the most current maps. Tate Lab is located on the East Bank of the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities Campus.

Computer Access
Linux work stations are readily available in our offices and we have both secure and unsecured wireless access for laptop computers.  Please let us know your requirements in advance of your visit so we may make the appropriate arrangements.

Visa/Green Card

If your travel expenses are being reimbursed and you are not a US citizen please bring with you both your passport and visa. If you are a permanent resident with a green card, please bring it with you (or a copy).  We are required to keep copies of these with expense reimbursement requests.

If you require a visa for your visit to FTPI we are happy to help with arrangements. Please contact our staff (contact information below) to get stared.

Seminar Speakers
If you are a visiting speaker, please send us your talk title at least one week prior to your arrival so it can be included in the calendar and announcements. In the seminar room there is an LCD projector which can be used. Please bring the necessary cords for connecting your Mac laptop.

Staff
If you need any further information before arriving, please don't hesitate to contact us.  We look forward to seeing you soon in Minneapolis!
